Travel time is reduced by 2.5 hours using the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway.

The construction of the 262 km long Bengaluru-Chennai highway will cost more than Rs 16,730 crore. Travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will be reduced by 2-3 hours.

“The project will reduce fuel consumption and be more cost-effective for vehicle operators. According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, “This will boost economic activity in Bangalore and Chennai, as well as industrial development in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The centre will be connected to Chennai port.”

The Bangalore-Chennai four-lane highway is one of 26 new green highways. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the cornerstone for a highway linking Bengaluru and Chennai in May 2022. The current average commute time between Chennai and Bangalore is 5-6 hours.

The new highway will reduce the distance between Bangalore and Chennai from 300 kilometres to 262 kilometres, with a speed limit of 120 kilometres per hour. It was built at a cost of 262 kilometres.

It will pass-through states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Depart from Hoscourt, a suburb of Bangalore, passing through the towns of Mallah, Bangalpet, Kohler Goldfields (KGF), Paramanor, Chittor and Ranipet along the way. The highway ends at Sriperumbudur in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu.

NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has divided the project into three construction phases.

The highway is a four-lane, double-decker elevated road.
